About the Name Hawarden
Locals pronounce it “Hey-warden” . The name itself has a curious history
English origin: Hawarden comes from Old English hēah (“high”) + worðign (“enclosure”). That literally means “high enclosure.”
Welsh connection: The Welsh also tied the name to an elevated position.
The funny part? Our Hawarden sits on low, wide-open prairie. If the old Welshmen wandered in today, they’d be scratching their heads wondering where the hill and walls went.
Our Services
Village Services
Hawarden provides essential services right in the village. We operate our own water system, offer garbage and recycling drop-off, maintain roads and winter snow plowing. The village also has a Canada Post office and a community center that hosts local events and gatherings.
